2006 Finals MVP: The 0-2 Comeback That Made a Legend
The 2006 Finals were Wade's altar and the start of Miami's first championship. The opponent was the 60-win Dallas Mavericks led by Dirk Nowitzki. After two games in Dallas the Heat trailed 0-2, and almost everyone assumed Miami's dream was dead.
But from Game 3 at home, Wade flipped the "legend switch." He shredded Dallas like a bolt of lightning: 42 points in G3, 36 in G4, and 43 in an overtime G5 on the road, dragging the series back. Across the back half he averaged 34.7, nearly single-handedly pulling the team off the cliff. Dallas had no answer — he bullied through contact, drew fouls, hit mid-range and floated runners, unstoppable.
In G6 at Miami the building erupted. Wade scored 36 and led a 95-92 clincher, taking the series 4-2. When the final buzzer sounded, the 24-year-old dropped to his knees — the franchise's first title, and his first FMVP.
The weight of that FMVP lies in being the absolute core against the wind. Shaq was on that Heat team too, but the true star of the series was the unstoppable Wade. He proved that even beside a superstar, the one who decides the title can still be the youngest, hungriest player. 2006 Wade was the brightest flash of the Flash.
Years later that 0-2 reversal is counted among the greatest Finals comebacks ever — and Wade is its synonym.
