Freezing LeBron: Kawhi’s Defensive Lesson

The 2014 Finals was Leonard’s defensive clinic on LeBron James. The King was still No.1, but against Kawhi’s length, hands and unflappable positioning, his shooting and efficiency clearly dropped.

Leonard’s defense leans on "anticipation" and "patience," not force: he always shaded James’ drive a half-step early, bothered shots with length, and avoided fouls. That poise exceeded his 23 years.

That season Leonard won Defensive Player of the Year and FMVP—rare to take both. He announced himself the league’s premier "stopper."

Great defenders win with brains, not bodies. Kawhi’s 2014 is the best textbook.
