Shaquille O'Neal: FMVP Legend

Shaq wasn’t a clumsy giant. 2.16 meters and nearly 150 kg, paired with rare agility and burst for a center, built his technical base.

Many stereotype big men as tall-but-slow, strong-but-clumsy. Shaquille O'Neal broke that bias. At 2.16 meters and a playing weight nearing 147 kg (about 325 lbs), he showed a center's rare agility and burst.

His skill set breaks into parts. First, lower-body strength: Shaq's core and leg power made him nearly immovable on the block. Defenders who leaned in were spun away with a single turn, momentum and all. Second, roll and lob: despite the size, his short-area burst was elite; after a screen he rolled to the rim for the high lob, one of the deadliest weapons in the Lakers' triangle. Third, finishing touch: not just hammering, he mixed baby hooks, bank shots and dunks, posting scary close-range efficiency.

On defense, Shaq was a top rim protector. His length, mass and read made drives feel like hitting a wall. Around 2000 his blocks held steady at 2-3 per game with huge help-side coverage.

Of course he had a famous flaw — free throws. A career 52.7% mark spawned "Hack-a-Shaq," opponents fouling him intentionally. Yet he still offset poor free-throw lines with elite interior efficiency, because within three meters of the rim he remained a threat.

Shaq's technical portrait is "body opens the door, coordination closes it." He didn't need Hakeem's footwork because his presence alone bent defenses — the most unique part of him as a center.
