2020-21 Wizards Season: A Triple-Double at Age 35

Many assumed Westbrook would decline quickly after leaving OKC. After all, he relied on explosiveness and conditioning — the two things time shows no mercy on. But in 2020-21 with the Washington Wizards, he silenced every doubter.

Averaging 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists, he posted a triple-double average for the third time in a season and led the league with 38 triple-doubles. At 35, the body; at 20, the heart. He and Beal, inside and out, dragged the Wizards back to the playoffs and rewrote the question of "can an old guard still triple-double." That season he repeatedly exploded in the fourth quarter to close games, proving that even as explosiveness faded, his feel for the game had only grown.

What moved people wasn't the stats but the "could cruise yet insists on grinding" edge. He told the world with every sprint: veterans may age, but never surrender. That year's Westbrook was a letter of defiance to time — you take my speed, not my ambition.
