After GDP: Spurs’ Legacy and Renewal

The 2014 Spurs were synonymous with "team basketball." Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker—plus Popovich’s system—pushed sharing to the extreme; in the Finals they broke 25 assists per game.

The 5th title was both the GDP era’s glorious farewell and a new beginning. Leonard emerged as the young wing, taking the defensive and perimeter torch. Veterans stepped aside for the newcomer—the most moving part of Spurs culture.

Leonard left a year later amid injury and friction, but 2014’s trophy froze the "system over self" philosophy.
