Olympic Gold and Loyalty: Westbrook Representing His Country
In London 2012, Westbrook wore Team USA's colors alongside Durant, James, Bryant and Anthony, winning Olympic gold. It was one of the few times in his career he didn't need to be the star — and one of the most enjoyable, free of schematic infighting, pure transition and defense.
On the international stage he remained the same relentless driver, blasting through defenses and throwing down in transition. As the gold medal hung on his neck, it was, beyond club honors, another heavy pride. Later, at Rio 2016, he won gold again, with two Olympic medals to his name.
Many remember his triple-doubles and MVP, but don't forget: Westbrook was also one of the steadiest engines in USA Basketball's "Dream Team" system. Representing his country was a quiet yet burning page in his basketball life — away from the spotlight, he brought the same "full throttle" to the flag.
