James Harden is one of the rare monsters to dominate the scoring chart for years. He took the scoring title in 2018, 2019 and 2020 — and in 2018-19 he averaged 36.1 points, matching one of the highest single-season outputs of his era and writing "the Beard's scoring art" into the history books.
The 2018-19 season was the apex of Harden's scoring eruption. He dropped 2,346 points that year, with multiple 50- and 60-point explosions: 61 vs. the Knicks, 61 vs. the Spurs, 44 (injured) to beat the Warriors. With Paul aging and the roster shaky, Houston rode Harden almost alone on offense; his minutes led the league as he carried the usage, the scoring and the playmaking.
More stunning was the blend of volume and efficiency. Harden's scoring didn't rely on chucking — his step-back threes, drawn fouls and floaters formed a three-dimensional network, and his true shooting stayed high on the back of heavy free-throw volume. He also became the first player in history with 2,000 points + 500 rebounds + 500 assists in a season, showing his all-around offensive game.
Three straight scoring titles mean far more than "padding stats." They prove that from 2018 to 2020, Harden was the league's most destructive scorer, full stop. Even after leaving Houston and changing roles, those three seasons remain among the brightest tags of his career.
