Wandering and Chasing: The Clippers, 76ers and Suns Late-Career Run

After leaving the Houston Rockets in 2023, James Harden entered a "wandering title chase" late-career run — through the Clippers, 76ers and Suns, repeatedly teaming with stars for that late O'Brien Trophy.

First, in 2023 he joined the Los Angeles Clippers, forming a four-star group with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and old partner Russell Westbrook. Harden yielded the absolute usage and returned to a pure point guard, orchestrating the team. The Clippers were seen as contenders, but injuries and fit issues stopped them short in the playoffs.

Then Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, forming an inside-out duo with Joel Embiid. In Philly he kept the playmaker role, maximizing Embiid's scoring threat. But the team's Eastern competitiveness was limited by health and depth, and Harden stalled again on the title path.

In 2024-25 he landed with the Phoenix Suns, joining Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to push again. From OKC to Houston, Brooklyn to the Clippers, 76ers and Suns, Harden's footprint spans many teams, each trade around one goal: win the ring that keeps slipping away.

This wandering defines the second half of his career — "for the ring, glad to be a piece." For a former MVP and long-time core, yielding the ball to fit systems is professionalism itself. The Beard's title story is still being written.
