The Hub of the Nuggets: Denver’s Offensive Engine
Since entering the league in 2015, Nikola Jokić has given his prime to the Denver Nuggets. From a middling team to the 2023 champions, Jokić was the irreplaceable axis and core.
Early Denver was unremarkable — Jokić averaged 10 as a rookie, the team rarely deep. As he evolved, Denver rebuilt around him: Jamal Murray as the backcourt mate, then Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., Christian Braun, under coach Michael Malone's "Jokić-as-offensive-engine" scheme. The 2022-23 Nuggets posted the West's best record and joined the contenders.
Jokić means more than numbers. He is the locker-room leader, the civic face and the front office's "untouchable." In an era of frequent star movement, he stayed in Denver, repaying loyalty with a title.
The 2023 championship was that loyalty's payoff. When Denver beat Miami and Jokić lifted FMVP, millions were moved. For a plateau small market, a Serb giving a decade of youth for its first title is the most moving basketball story. Jokić is synonymous with the Nuggets system.
