College Days: The Scoring Machine at San Francisco
Before the pros, Barry spent his formative years at the University of San Francisco. A school that prized team and discipline, yet got stamped with "scoring" because of him.
In college he was already shooting the underhand free throw, with freakish accuracy that made opponents laugh and fear. On offense he developed the stop-and-pop jumper and off-ball movement that later made him famous, beating defense with rhythm rather than power.
San Francisco gave Barry more than skills—it gave him the habit of "playing with the brain." Years later he repeatedly out-thought younger players in the NBA, rooted in the basketball IQ built in college. From campus to the league, Barry had almost no adjustment period—winning the scoring title as a rookie says it all.
