Versus Barkley: Jordan and the Suns’ Duel

The 1993 Finals’ headline was two elite forwards. One side: Chicago’s Michael Jordan, three-time scoring champ. The other: Phoenix’s Charles Barkley, fresh 1992-93 MVP at his peak.

Barkley was excellent too — 27 points and 13 boards, using strength and passing to carry Phoenix. But against Jordan’s 41-point volcano, the Suns’ defense ran short — multi-man rotations still couldn’t contain his isolations and mid-range.

It was "hero vs hero." Barkley won stats and personal glory; Jordan won the title and FMVP. Two greats on one floor made this among the 90s’ most watchable Finals.

Peak duels spare no regret, only need an even foe. Barkley was Jordan’s most dignified blocker on the three-peat road.
