In 2023, Dirk Nowitzki was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, in the same class as Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. A legend of loyalty, the fadeaway and a single-core title was formally sealed into basketball history.
His career résumé is thick enough to convince: 1 championship (2011), 1 FMVP (2011), 1 regular-season MVP (2007), 14 All-Star nods, 12 All-NBA selections, and 21 seasons all with Dallas — franchise leader in points, rebounds and games. He was the NBA's first European MVP and FMVP, and the purest "one city, one career" model in modern basketball. His career total surpassed 35,000 points, long among the league's all-time scoring leaders.
The enshrinement was the ultimate nod to those numbers, but what moved people was his meaning to a sport and a city. In Dallas he was beyond a player — the soul, the symbol; a statue stands outside the arena, his No. 41 hangs in the rafters. In basketball he gave "international player," "skilled big" and "single-core title" a concrete name.
