In a league of giants, 1.83 meters is easy to overlook. Yet Allen Iverson turned that height into one of the NBA’s most lethal weapons. He is the shortest scoring champion in league history — period. When people ask whether a small man can rule the premier basketball stage, the answer is him.
Drafted No. 1 overall in 1996 by the Philadelphia 76ers, the cornrowed kid with arm sleeves and a blazing first step broke every convention from day one. His crossover froze defenders cold — including the famous 2001 move that sent Michael Jordan stumbling, an eternal highlight.
His résumé: four scoring titles (1999, 2001, 2002, 2005), the 2000-01 regular-season MVP. That year he dragged an undermanned 76ers team to the Finals and, in Game 1, stunned the mighty Lakers 107-101 in overtime. Though Philadelphia fell 1-4, his solo-carry image outshone the banner.
Iverson was more than numbers. He was "The Answer," the bridge that brought streetball culture into the NBA — hip-hop attitude, tattoos, baggy fits. He made ordinary-height kids believe basketball is not only a giants’ game. Eleven All-Star nods, three steals titles, 2016 Hall of Fame — behind the honors lived a soul that refused to yield to height.
