MVP-Caliber Core: The 2025-26 Breakout
The 2026 FMVP was not a one-off — it was the peak of a stellar 2025-26 season.
That year Brunson made the All-Star starting lineup and won Player of the Month, placing squarely in the MVP conversation in scoring, clutch execution and win share. He was no longer "a fine deputy" but the Knicks' unquestioned offensive engine and tempo-setter.
His game is unfancy: read the screen, either pull up or dish; in half-court, punish drop coverage with floaters and pull-ups. Opponents scouted him a thousand ways and still could not stop the 1.88m man from scoring reliably.
When the playoffs came, Brunson turned the regular-season fire up another notch and cashed it into a unanimous Finals MVP. From All-Star to FMVP, 2025-26 was his true coronation season.
