2001 Over the Answer: Shaq’s Back-to-Back FMVP

The 2001 NBA Finals pitted the Lakers against Allen Iverson’s Philadelphia 76ers. In Game 1 Iverson dropped 48 to stun LA — the "Answer" seemed poised for a miracle. It was Philadelphia’s only bright night.

From Game 2, Shaquille O’Neal took over the paint. He averaged 33 points and 15.8 rebounds, grinding Philly’s thin interior to dust. In Game 5 at home the Lakers won 108-96 for a 4-1 repeat. O’Neal was the clear Finals MVP, back-to-back.

The series contrasted two heroes: Iverson carried a team alone; Shaq’s dominant interior decided it for LA. Team and size ultimately laughed last.

When the "Answer" met the "Big Shark," the Finals script still went to the bigger side.
