1988 Finals Game 7: James Worthy's Triple-Double Crowns the Lakers
The 1988 NBA Finals was a seven-game bloodbath between the Lakers and the Bad Boys Pistons. After six games tied at 3-3, everything hung on Game 7 — and James Worthy stepped up with the defining performance of his career.
In the decider, Worthy erupted for a lavish triple-double: 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists, single-handedly shredding Detroit's steel defense. His fast-break finishes, low-post aggression, and timely passes left the Pistons scrambling. Los Angeles escaped with a 108-105 win and the title.
For that dominant showing, Worthy was unanimously named Finals MVP — the only FMVP of his career. The 1982 top overall pick had spent six years evolving from the "third option" alongside Kareem and Magic into a clutch star who could carry the load on the biggest stage.
