2006 Dwyane Wade FMVP Breakdown

The 2005-06 season was Wade's year of fire and glory together. The same year he won his only scoring title, he lifted Miami's first championship. At 27.2 PPG he edged a field of elite scorers for the crown.

The title was no gift. Wade's size as a two-guard was unremarkable, yet with unsolvable drives, runners and foul-drawing, he pushed scoring efficiency to the top. His offense wasn't built on threes but on constant rim attacks — the euro-step gave him space among tall defenders, and the pull-up punished any sag.

Better still, the scoring title came with a title. Many scoring champs had mediocre teams; 2005-06 Wade was both a personal peak and a team's championship core. He steadied Miami in the regular season and tuned his form to another level in the playoffs — 34.7 in the Finals turned the scoring crown into an FMVP.

The only regret: Wade won just this one scoring title. Injuries and later yielding shots (post-2010, for LeBron) kept him from stacking more. But 2005-06 was perfectly timed: it proved Wade "could be a scoring champ" and "was more than a scorer" — he was a winner.
